Foundation Guide: Find Your Formula (updated 2019)

Foundation Guide: Find Your Formula (updated 2019)

Equally as important as selecting the perfect foundation shade is picking the right formula for your skin type and desired look. When your skin and base work together the end result is a flawless finish that will last longer and look more natural. Glo Skin Beauty offers five mineral makeup foundation formulations with varying finishes and coverage levels across skin types.

Finish

Finish is the look the foundation has on your skin.

  • Semi-matte gives a soft, matte look without shine on the face.
  • Satin is a natural looking sheen.
  • Dewy creates a luminous glow.

Coverage

Coverage is the degree to which foundation covers your skin.

  • Sheer foundation lets your natural skin show through, giving a light touch of color.
  • Medium coverage will cover more skin imperfections like mild acne, hyperpigmentation and redness.
  • Full coverage provides the maximum amount of cover for major skin imperfections like moderate to severe acne, Rosacea, bruising and more. This will give the skin a completely flawless look, great for photo shoots and weddings.

Skin Type

Skin type has to do with the natural oil production of your skin.

  • Dry skin often feels tight, usually around the forehead, nose or chin. There may be flaking or dry patches.
  • Oily skin over produces oil throughout the day, giving the skin a shiny appearance.
  • Combination skin is both oily and dry.
  • Normal skin feels even and balanced.

Formulas

Pressed Base

Finish: Semi-matte
Coverage Level: Sheer to full
Skin Type: All skin types

Pressed Base is our best-selling foundation formula for a reason. It's perfect for any skin type, with it's customizable coverage and semi-matte finish. Use 105 Flat-Top Kabuki Brush for more coverage or 104 Dual Fiber Face Brush for less. Pressed Base also works well as a setting powder!

HD Mineral Foundation Stick *NEW*

Finish: Satin
Coverage Level: Sheer to full
Skin Type: All skin types

This brand new, 4-in-1 HD Mineral Foundation Stick is perfect for all over base coverage, concealer, contour and highlight. Apply the lightweight formula directly to the skin, then blend with your preferred brush. We recommend the soft, round end of 107 Contour/Highlight Brush or Dual Fiber Cheek Brush

Luminous Liquid Foundation SPF 18

Finish: Dewy
Coverage Level: Sheer to medium
Skin Type: All but excessively oily

Luminous Liquid Foundation SPF 18 creates a luminous, dewy complexion with sheer to medium coverage thanks to light-diffusing diamond powder. This foundation is best for all but excessively oily skin. We recommend using 105 Flat-Top Kabuki Brush for expert application.

Satin Cream Foundation

Finish: Satin
Coverage Level: Medium to full
Skin Type: Normal to dry

Satin Cream Foundation gives a gorgeous, natural satin finish. This liquid mineral foundation offers medium to full coverage and is best for normal to dry skin, although many clients with oily/acne-prone skin prefer it, thanks to its superior coverage. We love 108 Angled Complexion Brush for precise application.

Loose Base

Finish: Dewy
Coverage Level: Medium to full
Skin Type: All skin types

Loose Base is a loose mineral foundation that creates a dewy finish with medium to full coverage. Since Loose Base gives the skin a light glow, it’s best for normal to dry skin. To keep application on the lighter side, try 104 Dual Fiber Face Brush.

Other Options

If you’re looking for a multi-tasking base, try Moisturizing Tint SPF 30 for moisturizer, sunscreen and color in one or Tinted Primer SPF 30 for a primer / color combo.

Set your mineral makeup with a light finishing powder to extend wear. Top it off with a spritz of a hydrating setting spray to hydrate.

I have been wanting to try glominerals for a while. I have allergies when it comes to something in make-up and get a rash from even Bare Minerals and Tarte products. After reading about this, I really want to try the pressed base. Do you ever do samples? I always like to try it first so I am not spending the money on a product I am allergic to.... please let me know!!!!! Thank you so much!

Hey Elizabeth! Do you know the ingredient you are allergic to? We can let you know if we use that ingredient in any of our formulas. The best way to try glo hands on is to visit your local glo retailer: https://www.gloprofessional.com/storelocator

Not positive of the actual ingredients. Still narrowing it! I have tried a retailer but the ones close to me are all medical offices and I would need an appointment. I have been in contact with customer service and they agreed to send me some samples!!! Yay! But that was about 10 days ago and I still haven't gotten any........

That's great! They would have been sent US mail without tracking, so I can't check on the status for you, but I would say if you don't have anything in your hands by mid-week next week, give us a call.

Hi, I have been using the loose base foundation for 5 years and love it. I'm wondering why you no longer have the loose base in Beige Light. I did go to Beige Medium and it works but it seems just a little to dark or not a complete match but I can blend it in to look ok. I need to have a base that has a pink undertone and not yellow. If I use any yellow undertone base, I will have a sick look. Can you tell me what foundations that you have that will have a pink undertone? What would be the closest color to Beige Light with a pink undertone and not be to light for me since I can have a washed-out look if it is. Thanks for any info that you can give.
