Travel Tips: TSA Liquid Rules

We’ve all been there- hours before a flight, cramming tiny bottles of face wash and creams into a Ziploc, trying to remember exactly how many ounces are allowed by TSA and hoping for the best. This holiday season, don’t chance being that person at security who is treated to an extra thorough luggage search. Plan ahead, pack right and travel stress-free.

TSA allows travelers to bring a quart-sized bag of liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes in your carry on bag, so stop trying the stuff your skincare into that sandwich baggie. Upgrade! Each bottle can be a maximum of 3.4 ounces (100 mL), and anything larger needs to be packed in checked luggage. 3.4 ounces is actually a lot larger than you think, so double check the fill claim on your products. Did you know all of our moisturizers, masks, exfoliants and suncare products fit the bill? Now it’s just a matter of fitting them in the bag...

Unfortunately for makeup addicts, liquid makeup products like liquid eyeliner, liquid foundation and nail polish do need to be included in your quart-sized bag. Liquid foundation bottles can take up a lot of space, so consider traveling with pressed powder foundation instead. Not all liquids are created equal (thank goodness), so your favorite gloss can travel safely in your purse.

Luckily for you, and all of those around you, stick deodorant, deodorant crystals and deodorant powders can travel baggie-free as well, which means when you’re making those last minute what stays and what goes, antiperspirant is off the chopping block.

When you go through security, remove your bag of liquids from your carry on and send through screening. For easier access, try storing your liquids in an outside pocket of your luggage so you can quickly grab them without holding up the line.

You did it! Security was a breeze, and the TSA agents were so impressed, they’ve decided you never have to go through screening again. Well. Probably not. But a jetsetter can dream.
