Dramatic Smoky Eye Fall Makeup Tutorial

This fall makeup look inspires drama. A matte black smoky eye is not as easy as it looks! It requires patience and expert blending.

First, we framed Lauren-Blair’s face with a striking, arched brow to match her red hair. For a simple brow routine, fill in the brow with short, hair-like strokes. Or amp up the brows, like we did here, and build off of the natural shape for a bold brow look.

From smoky slate gray to classic black, you can create any type of smoky eye with Cream Stay Shadow Sticks. Blend quickly after applying the cream to your eyes before the color sets, and work on one eye at a time.

The trick for achieving beautifully blended eyes is to layer. Apply one layer and blend through the crease, then deepen the color on the lid. Layer until you get the color intensity you like. After drying, these shadow sticks set for hours of smudge-proof wear.

To amplify this makeup even more, smudge the black shade along the lower lashline and coat the bottom lashes with a volumizing mascara. We left Lauren-Blair’s under eye fresh and clean to create contrast.

Get the Look

  1. Fill and shape brows with Precise Micro Browliner in auburn.
  2. Blend Eye Shadow in twig through the crease with the Eye Blender Brush.
  3. Apply Cream Stay Shadow Stick in pitch to the lid and blend edges with the Dual Fiber Eye Brush.
  4. Blend Eye Shadow in coy through the crease with the Texture Eye Brush.
  5. Apply Cream Stay Shadow Stick in beam to inner corner and brow bone.
  6. Line the lower lashline with Eye Shadow in twig using the Smudge Brush.
  7. Coat lashes with Lash Lengthening Mascara in black.

Lauren-Blair wears Pressed Base in natural medium with Liquid Bright Concealer in brighten to neutralize imperfections and sunburst to conceal dark circles. When applying a smoky eye, we usually recommend holding the concealer until the end just in case powder fallout ruins your flawless foundation, but with Cream Stay Shadow Sticks there is zero mess. We added definition and warmth to Lauren-Blair’s complexion with Contour Kit in medium to dark. To keep the focus on the eyes, we selected Lipstick in nude, a light beige shade, mixed with spark, a peachy pink, and topped it with Gloss in pueblo.
