Combat Hyperpigmentation with Bright Skin Solution

While many people might immediately think of aging as the most common skin concern, hyperpigmentation is not far behind. And it’s no wonder, as hyperpigmentation can raise a woman’s perceived age by up to twenty years!

What is Hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation is classified as the uneven skin pigment in the form of dark spots or patches, stemming from an uneven distribution of melanin, the substance that gives skin its color. Hyperpigmentation will affect many people to some degree due to melanocytes in our skin which are responsible for creating melanin, becoming less efficient as we age.

What Causes Hyperpigmentation?

The primary cause of hyperpigmentation is due to overexposure from the sun. Over time our melanocytes become affected, causing damaged DNA cells to replicate incorrectly, resulting in an irregular distribution of pigment. DNA damage by UV rays may be the most common factor of excessive pigmentation, but it’s not the only one. Skin injuries and inflammation can lead to a specific type of hyperpigmentation called chloasma, while hormonal changes can also trigger melasma, known as the “mask of pregnancy”. These two types of hyperpigmentation can be difficult to treat because they come in patches of discoloration, not spots. In any case, the sun will always exacerbate hyperpigmentation, which is why we recommend incorporating an SPF into your daily routine.

How to Brighten Skin

Targeting and treating hyperpigmentation can be a long process, but with the proper products from our Bright Skin Solution and a little bit of patience, a brighter complexion is possible. To start any hyperpigmentation treatment process, whether at-home or professionally, we recommend wearing and reapplying SPF every day, in addition to using hyperpigmentation skincare products, which brighten and inhibit the formation of melanin and exfoliating to target existing pigmented areas.
