Bridal Beauty Diary: Creating a Skincare Routine

Guest post by glo employee and bride-to-be, Amy Foster - Content and Communication Specialist

With a little under seven months to go, my wedding to-do list seems to be getting longer instead of shorter. Between flowers and save-the-dates, it’s easy to get caught up in all of the small details! One thing that I am excited about crossing off the list is meeting with glo’s National Educator, Amanda, to talk about my skincare strategy.

I am fairly diligent when it comes to skincare but could use some one-on-one guidance when it comes to addressing my specific skincare concerns. I feel so fortunate that Amanda offered to answer all of my questions and steer me in the right direction when it comes to creating an at-home routine and scheduling professional treatments. Read our Q&A on where to start with a skincare routine and then follow along for my very own bridal beauty skincare routine.

Amy: When should a bride start her bridal beauty routine?
Amanda: As soon as possible! 7-8 months out is a good start but, depending on your skin issues, you might want to start sooner. Changes aren't going to happen overnight, especially if you’re looking to target acne or hyperpigmentation.

Amy: Where should I even start when creating an at-home routine?
Amanda: Since everyone’s skin is different there isn’t one single routine that is going to work for everyone. The best thing you can do is consult with a licensed esthetician who can meet with you personally to discuss your goals and different treatment options.

Amy: What are some questions that an esthetician might ask during this consultation?
Amanda: First, an esthetician should learn all they can about your skin and its current condition. Next, they should ask about your goals, as well as your timeline, and create a tailored home care and treatment schedule. It’s also important to work around all events such as bridal showers, bachelorette parties and engagement pictures - not just the wedding day.

Amy: As far as professional treatments go, do you have any recommendations?
Amanda: I recommend talking to your esthetician about their bridal packages. Many spas and estheticians offer bridal specials or a series at a discount. Buying a series of 6 services that includes both peels and facials is a great start and should help you get the results you are looking for. Plus, it’s a great way to pamper and relax!

Amy: I’m so grateful that you are helping me! What’s the best way for other brides to find a glo esthetician who can help them get started?
Amanda: The best way to find a local glo retailer is to call 1-800-232-0398. Our customer service team will direct you to an experienced esthetician in your area!

After our chat, Amanda and I started my personal consultation. We chatted about my skin type, my specific goals and my bridal timeline. She then created a personalized at-home routine that I can’t wait to start! Here’s a little bit of info about my skin:

Skin Type: I have very dry skin that is on the sensitive side. Because my skin is so dry it often feels tight and flaky. I also have occasional breakouts on my chin and jawbone but the majority of my breakouts occur on my chest and back (along the lines of my sports bra). As a wannabe yogi and runner, dealing with blemishes on my chest and back has been a constant struggle and something I’m a little worried about with my wedding dress!

Skin Concerns: My biggest concerns include clearing up all blemishes that might be visible on my chest and back as well as treating my dry, flaky skin. Dull, flakey skin doesn’t sound very bridal!

Timeline: 7 months!

From Amanda: Taking Amy’s skin type, goals and timeline into account I created a customized at-home skin care routine. This routine has three parts: a morning routine, an evening routine, and a back and chest treatment to use as needed. Hydrations is key for Amy so I focused on products that will help keep her skin hydrated and balanced. The most important part of any skincare routine is consistency. If a bride isn’t diligent and compliant with her esthetician’s recommendations then she’s not going to get the results she’s looking for. Also, NO TANNING! There are so many great alternatives out there that there is no excuse for damaging your skin for your wedding!

Here’s Amy’s Routine:

Back and Chest Treatment:

We also scheduled a series of 10 professional treatments over the next eight months. This series includes four facials, three peels and three back and chest treatments. I am planning on customizing each treatment to Amy’s specific needs which will deliver the best results!

Stay tuned for the next post where we’ll start the first treatment!
